Let me Introduce Myself…
Hi, I'm Laura Cunningham, PsyD, LP
I'm a licensed psychologist with a passion for helping students and trainees navigate the challenges of higher education and professional training. Throughout my own academic journey, I completed a doctoral dissertation, internship, licensure requirements, and advanced specialty training while balancing full-time work, marriage, pregnancies, and raising two young children.
I understand firsthand how overwhelming it can feel to juggle competing responsibilities while trying to make progress toward important goals. My approach combines practical planning, accountability, encouragement, and problem-solving to help students move forward with confidence.
Whether you're working on a dissertation, preparing for a licensing exam, managing a demanding workload, or feeling stuck on your next step, I'm here to help you create a realistic plan, stay accountable, and make meaningful progress.
Some questions you may have…
-
Many students know what they need to do but struggle with finding the time, structure, motivation, or confidence to do it consistently. Academic coaching provides accountability, organization, problem-solving, and support so you can make steady progress toward your goals.
-
I work with undergraduate, graduate, and professional students, as well as individuals preparing for licensing or certification exams. I particularly enjoy helping students who are balancing school with careers, parenting, caregiving, or other major life responsibilities.
-
I understand firsthand what it takes to succeed in higher education while managing a full life outside of school. I completed my doctoral training, dissertation, internship, licensing requirements, and professional training while navigating marriage, parenting, pregnancy, and work. My approach combines academic expertise with practical, real-world strategies that fit into busy lives.

-
This depends on your needs and goals. Some people benefit from weekly sessions, while others prefer biweekly check-ins or targeted support during major milestones such as dissertation writing or exam preparation. We can figure out what works best for you together.
-
Not at all. Many students seek coaching because they want to improve efficiency, maintain momentum, reduce stress, or perform at their highest level.
-
I believe success does not require perfection. My goal is to help students create realistic systems that work within the context of their actual lives—not an idealized version of life. Progress, consistency, and self-compassion often lead to better outcomes than constant pressure and burnout.
-
I have spent years navigating demanding academic and professional training while balancing work, family responsibilities, and everyday life. I have had many days where I struggles to get everything done that I needed to. I understand how difficult it can be to stay productive when you're stretched thin, and I help you develop strategies that are realistic, sustainable, and tailored to you circumstances.
-
No. Academic coaching is not therapy, counseling, or mental health treatment. While I am a licensed psychologist, our work together would not include any mental health therapy.
Coaching focuses on helping you clarify goals, improve organization, develop effective study and work habits, increase accountability, and create practical strategies for academic and professional success.
While we may discuss stress, motivation, perfectionism, or barriers to progress as they relate to your goals, coaching does not involve diagnosing or treating mental health conditions. If concerns arise that would be better addressed through therapy or counseling, I will encourage you to seek appropriate support.
My role as a coach is to help you move forward with greater clarity, confidence, and consistency in your academic and professional pursuits.
